Don't Let Fire Haunt Your Halloween

With all the fun and excitement Halloween brings like dressing up, decorating, and, of course, CANDY! We want to make sure that we are keeping our little monsters and ourselves safe. Did you know that decorations are the first thing to ignite in 900 reported home fires each year? Also, 2 out of 5 of these fires were started by a candle. Here are some safety tips from NFPA to help you avoid these fires:
- Use battery operated candle or glow stick in Jack-O-Lantern instead of a candle.
- Dried flowers, cornstalk, fake webs, and crepe paper catch fire easily. Keep all decorations away from open flames and other heat sources like light bulbs and heaters.
- Teach children to stay away from open flames including Jack-O-Lanterns with candles in them.
- When choosing costumes, stay away from long trailing fabric.
- Remember to keep exits clear of decorations so nothing blocks escape routes.
- Make sure all smoke alarms in the home are working.
We hope you find these tips helpful! Happy Halloween from all of us here at SERVPRO of Fairfield. And remember, a Safe Halloween is a Happy Halloween.
